A Complete Guide To 5 Star’s Replacement Window Range
The extended daylight hours we experience throughout the spring and summer months will fully expose your windows to the world. It is important that they are in very good shape as any visible signs of wear and tear will be immediately spotted by people.
If they’re not then now is the time to be replacing them, but what replacement window design are you best choosing?
To help you with your decision making we have put together a summary of some of the main window designs available at 5 Star.
Casement Windows
Casement windows have been around for generations and are integrated into many traditional residences. The glass panes of a casement window design open outwardly as they are hinged (with one or more hinges) at the top or the side. They can be manufactured in a multitude of shapes and sizes and the window frame is very slender.
Tilt & Turn Windows
Tilt & Turn windows offer an immense amount of versatility as they provide different openings. A single turn of the handle causes the window to tilt inwards and creates a top opening. This option prevents you having to open the window wide open. The alternative is to turn the handle upwards when the window is shut to open the window inwards from the side, perfect for cleaning the window.
Sash Windows
A sash window has two separate frames, with one sitting above the other. They are interchangeable as they can be opened by sliding either of the frames over the other. Sometimes the glass panes are separated by glazing bars. UPVC sash windows are specially designed to mimic a traditional timber sash window.
Georgian Windows
Georgian windows were originally made from timber and feature authentic Georgian bars that are evocative of the Georgian era. They’re a great option for those who are looking to give their residence a traditional styling. The Georgian bars help create the illusion of smaller windows within a large piece of glass.
Heritage Windows
Planning authorities will only allow you to fit replacement windows in listed buildings and at properties in conservation areas that sustain their character. Heritage windows do that as they’re designed to replicate traditional Flush Sash Timber Windows and look almost identical to a period timber window. The hardware affixed to Heritage windows is also reminiscent of windows dating back to the 19th Century.
